The Sweetest Gig of All - Inspiration and Play list

My brother, who I still maintain sings better than Jim Morrison or Mick Jagger, and I spent our teenage years encouraged in and surrounded by music. He went on to music college in Chichester, England, where the flashbacks in this story are based.

I wondered what it would be like to have had one of our close, musically-inclined friends become famous when we had known them as hormonal, troubled teenagers. That's the story of Anna and Luke. Both were raw versions of the people they would become, drawn together and motivated by music, but towards differing goals that ultimately tear them apart. Yet it is also music that pulls them back together years later.

I had great fun creating a play list of music that spoke of Anna and Luke's story. Yes, there's a lot of NZ music here, but it inspired me long before I reached these beautiful shores. The song titles in brackets are Pretty Day songs I wrote. They appear in various lengths in the book, but my favourite is 'My Friday Love'. Most of the YouTube links (click the titles) are to live versions of the songs, because ultimately this book revolves around music being performed and the quiet space in between gigs where songs, and relationships, are seeded.
